Personal Insurance has issues. Waffle eats issues for breakfast. In an industry straying from its original mission – protecting people when they need it the most – Waffle arrived to set things straight. That meant all the insurance a person could need in one place, coverage from the best in the business, and built-in rewards for acting like an adult. Waffle's vision was solid. Their fledgling website's copy and design were another story. Seeking a brand identity revamp that included a comprehensive marketing strategy, Waffle approached Timelapse.

Over the course of our partnership, we hammered out their objectives, nailed the kind of brand voice their founders dreamed of, and built a sleek, user-friendly website bursting with color, motion, and personality.

As the visual designer, I worked closely with the Art Director and Marketing to nail down their visual identity. Together, we developed the overall visual presentation of the product. This includes user research, brand and visual design, crafting user interfaces for iOS and Web, and creating social media assets.

A New Onboarding

Previous Issues 🙁 :

  • Language was too robotic

  • Lengthy onboarding (too many disclaimers)

  • Inconsistent branding across mobile app

Competitive Research

User feedback on the beta mobile app, coupled with our competitor analysis of Lemonade's lightning-fast onboarding, highlights a critical area for improvement – streamlining the user experience without sacrificing clarity and user engagement. We need to focus on optimizing the onboarding process to deliver quotes efficiently while keeping users informed and interested.

Final Designs

We took the chance to revamp their entire onboarding flow, focusing on language and adding moments of delight to engage with the customer. The overall flow is shorter, and has moments of delights with illustrations, animations and a more guided experience.

Improvements ⭐️:

  • Adding in moments of delight via illustrations

  • Creating a branded experience throughout the app

  • Integrating chat to obtain user information and instantly provide quote based on input

When it comes to selecting coverage, we wanted to create a user friendly experience with simple toggles and a sticky bottom nav with pricing so users can see real time changes while adjusting data. In addition to the mobile experience, we made sure these pages are digestible on both desktop and ipad.

The Timelapse team worked on the app interface design itself, from the onboarding screens to the product customization and beyond. We also produced animated videos for the app store and the company website.
